There are volunteer opportunities at Last Chance Animal Rescue inside the shelter, off-site, or even from the comfort of your home. Whether you want to help Last Chance’s animals daily or once in a while, we have opportunities for everyone! Our ability to save 8,000 to 10,000 animals a year would not be possible without the continued support and dedication of our volunteer team. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact LCAR’s volunteer coordinator at volunteer@lastchanceanimalrescue.org or (301) 885-8538.

Volunteer

Cat Adoption Centers

Last Chance has cats and kittens in 30 PetSmart and Petco Adoption Centers in Maryland and Virginia.

Volunteers in our adoption centers help care for and socialize our cats and kittens awaiting their perfect adopter.

If you love cats and have time to commit to working one or more shifts per week, we need you!

You will learn to screen potential adopters, spot the first signs of kitty colds, and more.

A few hours, a love of cats and a keen eye is all it takes.

The hours are flexible and you may choose which adoption center works best for you.

Training is provided at the center.

To volunteer in your local adoption center, fax your completed volunteer agreement to (301) 222-3792 or email it to volunteer@lastchanceanimalrescue.org. For more information on volunteering, call (301) 885-8538.

Dog Walkers

As the Last Chance dog adoption program expands, we need volunteers to assist with dogs and puppies at our rescue.

Volunteers walk the pups to ensure they are getting the proper exercise, playtime and of course love and socialization. Morning, lunch and evening shifts are available seven days a week.

The rescue is located at 8500 Bensville Road, Waldorf, MD 20603.

If you love dogs and live or work close by and have a little time to spare, please email volunteer@lastchanceanimalrescue.org or call (301) 885-8538.

Off-Site Adoption Events

Last Chance participates in dog adoption events every Saturday and always need extra hands. Weekend volunteers work primarily with Last Chance dogs and puppies in need of loving homes. Volunteers are responsible for meeting potential adopters, answering their questions, as well as walking, playing and cuddling the pups. Volunteers must be 16 years of age and must sign up to participate by 4 p.m. on the Thursday prior to the event. To volunteer, please email volunteer@lastchanceanimalrescue.org or call (301) 885-8538.

Animal Transporters

Transporting animals can be very time consuming and we need a team of reliable transport volunteers. Volunteer animal transporters drive our animals to adoption events and deliver animals from other shelters to the safety of our rescue. To volunteer for the transport team, please email volunteer@lastchanceanimalrescue.org or call (301) 885-8538.

Foster

Foster Opportunities: Cats and Dogs

All Last Chance animals want to find loving permanent homes. However, some animals such as tiny puppies and kittens need a loving temporary foster home until they are ready for adoption. If you are interested in opening your home to an animal or two in need, email foster@lastchanceanimalrescue.org or call (240) 412-5751.

Bottle Baby Project: Kittens

Every year, especially during the breeding season which spans from March to October, shelters are overwhelmed with orphaned, un-weaned kittens. Without foster homes, thousands of these kittens will be euthanized because shelters cannot provide the around the clock care these kittens need to survive.

You can help! We need foster parents willing to care for bottle baby kittens, momma cats with kittens, or weaned kittens less than 8 weeks of age in their home. We will train you! We also need animal transporters who can pick up kittens from shelters in Baltimore, Upper Marlboro, Hughesville and Washington and deliver them to Last Chance in Waldorf, MD. To volunteer contact bbp@lastchanceanimalrescue.org. To learn more about this program check out the Bottle Baby Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/BottleBabyProject.
